NEWSLETTER TERM 4 2011
Riders
This is a short but busy Term, well done to all our riders who competed at the Hawke's Bay A&P Show on Wednesday 19th October you were a credit to the Group – please remember to say thank you to all the volunteers who helped make this special day possible. This event is only possible due to the generosity of the Hawke's Bay Show who provide an arena and ribbons for our riders and volunteers who judge, steward and help lead and sidewalk and with all the other tasks.
Some dates for your diaries Term 4 riding will finish on Thursday 8th December and the End of Term Certificate Party will be on Monday 12th December at 11am we hope you will all be able to attend, families welcome, watch out for notices up in the Clubhouse nearer the time.
Congratulations to Mitchell who was our Rider of the Month for August and Ryley who was rider of the Month for September, great work boys.
Please remember although we are coming into the summer months we still need to be safe when we are riding – no open toed sandals and we love it when our riders come in stretchy track pants, no tight jeans please. We do have sunscreen available in the Clubhouse and cold water for those really hot days to come.
Volunteers
A date for all our volunteers to remember is Monday 5th December when we will be having our end of year party at the Clubhouse at 6pm, look out for notices up in the Clubhouse nearer the time.
Thank you to all our volunteers for their hard work through the winter you are a multi talented bunch who have been fencing and painting and weed-spraying and grass cutting and gardening and cleaning and photocopying along with leading and sidewalking and helping get the horses and ponies ready for rides and putting out the activities in the arena (and putting them away again at the end).
Thank you to Zoe and Mykaela, Hanna and Sophie for helping during the School vacation and to everybody who has done "a bit extra" it is really appreciated; this therapeutic riding facility couldn't run without you.
It was lovely to see so many of our volunteers at the TTeam training session working with our horses and ponies and I know many of you got together to go and see Buck a film about the real Horse Whisperer and really enjoyed it.
Ponies
The ponies have been very busy losing their winter coats, thank you to all the volunteers who helped with the brushing and bathing to get them looking smart for Term 4. At the end of Term 3 the ponies had a real treat, Trisha Wren came and gave a TTeam training session to our volunteers whom they all learnt a lot from, the horses and ponies really enjoyed the massages and therapy and general extra fuss and helped us learn new ways of leading.
It has been decided to move the horses and ponies off site for the period 4th to 7th November, Fireworks night and weekend, we hope not too many people will decide to let theirs off early and upset the horses and ponies during the riding week. Each year volunteers have to come and hold distressed horses and ponies in the paddocks on several evenings to prevent them getting hurt, it has a lasting effect on the horses and ponies and many of them become nervous of loud bangs and shrieks and we want to prevent further problems.
Funding & Sponsorship
Thank you to all our awesome horse and pony sponsors – L I Redshaw, Steve Ryan, Topstock International, Geoff & Chris Small, Hastings District Masonic Trust, Hastings Rotary Charitable Trust, N G Wall, Heretaunga Building Society you have enabled us to keep the four legged team of Petra, Teeny, Angel, Milo, Tonto and Enya really well looked after through the winter, they are fit and well and their rugs and riding gear is all in good order. Hastings Group RDA is currently trying to find funding to turn the area where the old building stood into a car park for clients and volunteers and top up the sand around the mounting ramp. Also on our wish list is filling in the pot holes in the big car park and putting a new surface down in the horse stalls under the trees.
A big thank you to HBS Bank for all your support and the office chairs, they are really comfortable.
We are holding a Sausage Sizzle at the new Mitre 10 Mega on Sunday 30th October if you are there checking out the new store say hello to Kerry and the "sizzlers" and buy a sausage.
Have a lovely term
Kind regards from Ruth & the Team
