The RDA therapeutic equestrian programmme teaches vital life skills to children with physical and/or intellectual disabilities. Now you and your organisation can help to ensure the success of this programme. By sponsoring an RDA horse or pony, you can enhance the health and wellbeing of disabled children. You can make an important difference in the lives of the local children who come week after week, year after year.
Each of the Hastings RDA horses and ponies cost an average of $1,000 per year for training, maintenance and tack. Your contribution will help ensure that our horses deliver the wonderful therapeutic experience that our special riders need and deserve.
Each RDA horse is specially selected and trained to accommodate disabled young riders of all ages and ability levels. Whether standing patiently to be mounted by a wheel-chair bound child, or keeping a steady gait amidst the noise and fun of a games session in the riding arena, our horses enable children to master essential physical, mental and emotional skills. They also allow our children to discover the special satisfaction and enjoyment that comes with horsemanship.
RDA horses and ponies are—quite literally—the “backbone” of our therapeutic program. Without these wonderful animals, we could not deliver the unique combination of life-skills training and recreation that is so important for our special riders. Without the support of businesses and individuals like you, we could not provide the necessary care and training our horses need. Each one requires daily grooming, feeding, exercise, regular veterinary and farrier services, and on-going, individually tailored monitoring and training.
